LUCKNOW: Equating silence on triple talaq by the political parties with Draupadi’s ‘cheer haran’ episode in mythological Mahabharata, UP Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi said that those maintaining silence on the issue are equally responsible.
“I am surprised over the silence maintained by such individuals,” the Chief Minister said. He was speaking as the chief guest at the launch of Hindi book “Do took (straightforward)” to mark the 91st birth anniversary of late politician and former PM Chandrashekhar at UP Vidhan Sabha Central Hall on Monday.
Quoting the narration from Draupadi’s ‘cheerharan’ episode, Yogi said “everyone stood silent when Draupadi was being disrobed. Those who stayed silent were as guilty and at fault as those who disrobed her. Similarly, the people who are silent on the issue of triple talaq are equally guilty.”
I feel that those who have maintained silence and kept their mouth shut on Triple talaq should be under scanner. It is surprising that the political horizon has remained silent on the issue,” the CM added.
UP Assembly Speaker Hridya Narain Dixit, Kunda MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh ‘Raja Bhaiyya’, Unnao MLA Kuldip Sengar, BJP MLA Shailesh Singh ‘Shailu’ and Divya Prem Sewa Mission founder Ashish Gautam were among others present during the event.
The CM also quoted Chandrashekhar’s views on common civil code and said that he had said that if crime and punishment are same for every one, there should be uniformity in rules and regulations on marriages and other social issues too.
Praising the former PM’s clarity of thoughts, Yogi said the book authored by Dhirendranath Srivastava mentions his views on Jammu and Kashmir. He had said that if Kashmir was to be separated from India, it would take away the country’s secularism and belief.
He was a very straightforward person, Yogi said, adding that Chandrashekhar, despite being a socialist leader, represented many other ideologies.
