Telangana CM Chandrashekhar Rao Instructs Schools to Make Telugu Compulsory Till Class 12,

Telangana cm KCRHyderabad: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao  directed all the educational institutions in the state to make the Telugu language compulsory in all the schools – government and private – till class 12. He added that the schools failing to obey the order will be de-recognised and will not be allowed to function in Telangana. Students can also take Urdu as an optional subject.

A senior official in the education department told TOI that the schools will have to obey the directions and there is no other option available for them, both in the government and private sector. “They have to offer Telugu as a compulsory subject in every class. Those institutions refusing to implement the government decision will not henceforth get approvals from the state education department,” he added.

Telangana CM has also directed that all the commercial establishments in the state must have signboards in Telugu, apart from two other languages. Chandrasekhar Rao also directed Telugu Sahitya Academy to prepare Telugu textbooks for all the classes.

Another official said that the chief minister directed that for necessary amendment in the law, the decisions will be placed before the next cabinet meeting. If necessary, the Telangana government will bring in a legislation.

According to the reports, the state government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore for the purpose. Rs 5 crore will go to the Sahitya Academy and Rs 2 crore to the Official Language Committee.

The move is apparently motivated by vice president M Venkaiah Naidu who had requested the CM to protect the language during a felicitation programme.
