The MP cop fat shamed by Shobha De on Twitter underwent a successful bariatric surgery at Saifee Hospital and is expected to lose around 80 kgs in the coming months.
Mumbai:After a successful bariatric surgery that last 1.5 hours at the city’s Saifee hospital, Daulatram Jogawat, the cop from Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh, is stable and walking around in his ward at the hospital. He is likely to be discharged from the hospital in the coming few days.
“He can lose around 80 odd kilos in the next year but mainly his uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea will disappear in the coming months,” said a team member of bariatric surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala.
Jogawat had a laparascopic gastric bypass surgery at the Saifee hospital that lasted an hour and a half and proceeded without a glitch.
“The surgery was completed by 4.30 pm on Thursday and went well. The patient is normal and is already walking around in his ward. Everything is fine and he will be discharged in a day or two,” the doctor added.
All of Jogawat’s other vitals were stable ahead of surgery. He has a BMI of 57 as opposed to 26 in an otherwise healthy individual.
“Following a bariatric surgery, a patient loses around five to ten kgs month on month. Usually, a patient sheds around 75% of their excess body weight over a period of 7 days to 1 year,” the doctor said.
Jogawat arrived in the city from Neemuch on Sunday night to meet Dr Lakdawala who is currently also treating Eman Ahmed from Egypt who is touted to be the world’s heaviest woman.
The police inspector from MP was put through a series of tests on Monday. Genetic tests showed no hormonal or genetic links for his obesity. The cop who is 5’10 weighs 177 kgs.
Earlier last week, Shobha De was criticised after tweeted a picture of Jogawat, with a caption saying ‘heavy police Bondobast’ during the Mumbai municipal elections.
Dr Lakdawala had offered to help the cop after he was fat shamed. While the cop was a healthy 75 kg till early 1990s, it was only after a gall bladder operation that he started putting on weight.
