Chennai: Filmmaker Pa Ranjith accompanied by actor Kalaiyarasan met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.
The BJP is apparently banking on the hesitant Rajinikanth for a tie-up ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year. In the meantime while Rajinikanth drags his feet with regard to launching his political party, Ranjith went ahead and met Rahul Gandhi and quite significantly discussed, going by the tweets of Ranjith and Kalaiyarasan, the threat posed by the current dispensation at the Centre to the secular fabric of the country. Ranjith’s tweet says, “discussed caste and religious bias threatening the core of our secular constitution. Kalaiyarasan describes the meeting with Rahul Gandhi as a `great experience’ for him before adding, ‘Waiting for the change.’
The Congress president also gave the impression that he was delighted about the interaction with the director from south India. He tweeted, “I met film director PA Ranjith the man behind blockbuster films like Madras, Kabali and Kaala and actor Kalaiyarasan, in Delhi yesterday. We talked about politics, films and society. I enjoyed the interaction and look forward to continuing our dialogue.”
Last month ‘Makkal Needhi Maiyam’ (People’s Justice Centre) leader Kamal Haasan met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son.
In these meetings the release of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts including Perarivalan has figured in the discussion. Ranjith reportedly said that Rahul Gandhi was positive to his request on the release of Perarivalan.
Kamal Haasan, it may be recalled, had termed as ‘humane’ Rahul Gandhi’s remarks few months ago that he and his sister Priyanka have “completely forgiven” the killers of their father Rajiv Gandhi.
However President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected state government’s mercy plea to release all seven life convicts in the former prime minister assassination case.
