CHENNAI: An IPS officer from Tirunelveli was caught indulging in malpractices in the civil services
(main) examination at Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai on Monday.
Police said Shabir Karim IPS, an assistant superintendent of police on probation in Nanguneri
subdivision of Tirunelveli, allegedly used a Bluetooth in the examination hall. His wife, who is in
Hyderabad, was dictating answers to him over phone.
Shabir, a 2014 batch officer, is a native of Kerala. He was writing the civil services exam as he
wanted to be an IAS officer, police said.
The Egmore police booked him under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating and dishonesty).
Police sources said he was likely to be dismissed as he was still in the probationary period.
The police sought the Hyderabad police’s help to arrest his wife.
