New Delhi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the violence in Haryana and parts of Punjab,
following Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh‘s conviction in rape cases, said the unrest was funded by his sect,
Dera Sacha Sauda. According to the SIT, Dera authorities spent at least Rs 5 crore to cause the unrest
which led to the death of 39 people. The SIT is probing involvement of Aditya Insaan, Honeypreet Insaan
and Surender Dhiman Insaan in this case.
The SIT report stated that Dera’s Panchkula head Chamkaur Singh is the key person who arranged for the
mob. He was reportedly given the money by the Dera management. Money was also sent to various places in
Punjab, the SIT said. As per sources cited by a leading newspaper, the followers were also told that
they would get compensation in case of loss of life during the violence.
Reportedly Chamkaur Singh along with his family has gone into hiding since a High Court directed the
police to register a sedition case against him. According to police, as quoted by reports, it is likely
that more details will emerge after the arrest of Chamkaur. Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) BS
Sandhu said several police teams are looking for him at his possible hideouts.
Chamkaur, a resident of Dhakoli in Mohali district supervised the operations around the CBI court in
Panchkula and was also active in Sector 5 on August 24 ahead of the violence that broke out on August
24, police claimed.
Several others who were involved in the violence are on police radar, reports claimed. Surender Dhiman
Insaan and some local residents had reportedly arranged langar for the followers who started gathering
at Panchkula on August 23.
