The Prime Minister accused the Congress of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar
NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress of insulting Dr. BR Ambedkar and said that his government was committed to work for the Dalits and the backward classes.
“In 2015, our government tried to strengthen the law to prevent the atrocities against the Dalits. Our government increased the list of crimes committed against Dalits from 22 to 47,” the PM said.
The PM also announced that special courts are being set up to expedite cases involving Dalits and backward classes on urgent basis.
He accused the Congress of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar and urged people not to believe the lies being spread by the party.
The PM accused the previous governments of dilly-dallying on the construction of the memorial. “Many governments came to power after Independence but what should have been done much before has happened now, after decades. This memorial is a tribute to Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” the PM said.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said that Congress never wanted to work for the upliftment of the Dalits and other backward classes.
“The Congress party never wanted to bring the Dalits in the mainstream. However, our government is trying to follow the the principles of BR Ambedkar and working for the benefit each and every section of the society.,” he said.
The Prime Minister also lashed out at the Congress for creating an “ecosystem” where only one family matters.
“After Independence, the Congress party created an ecosystem in which the history of country revolves around one single family. The people who didn’t bowed to the demands of the party, didn’t find a place in history books,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister rebuked the Congress for “denying” a space for BR Ambedkar’s portrait in the Central Hall of Parliament and said that the party has always tried to undermine the achievements of Ambedkar.
“It is important for today’s generation to know how Ambedkar tried to expose the real face of the Congress. It is crucial for today’s youth to know that whenever Congress is surrounded with allegations, they will use all possible means to quell the attack,” he said.
The Prime Minister also lashed out at the Congress for denying Ambedkar Bharat Ratna and said that almost every Congress leader, from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi, was bestowed with the award. However, Ambedkar was only given the award in 1990, when VP Singh became the Prime Minister of the country with the help of BJP’s support.
