Tharoor is that rare animal in modern India: a writer-politician. While working as a bureaucrat at the United Nations, Tharoor wrote the Great Indian Novel, a satirical version of the Mahabharata set in the context of the Indian independence movement and its aftermath. He has also written on the history of the British Raj and on the journey of India as a modern state.
His latest book, though, takes a look at religion, specifically Hinduism. Titled Why I Am A Hindu
